Hyundai Motor Group executive chair Euisun Chung met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Oct 22 to discuss the future of the Indian mobility industry, with a strong focus on electric vehicle (EV) ecosystems, innovation, and long-term investments.
The meeting, held at the Prime Minister's office in Delhi, marked a key moment in Hyundai's efforts to expand its presence in India's growing mobility market. According to a news release, the discussions centered around cooperation between Hyundai Motor Group and India, particularly in accelerating the adoption of EVs.
Hyundai plans to localize the production of EV components and expand the country's EV charging station infrastructure. Chung expressed Hyundai's commitment to India's "Make in India" initiative, which aligns with the nation's vision of becoming a developed country by 2047, the 100th anniversary of India's independence.
Chung also highlighted the importance of India as a strategic partner due to its dynamic market conditions and reform-driven government. "India's rich history and culture continue to inspire people worldwide. As India and Korea deepen economic collaboration, we can learn much from each other's cultures and strengthen the foundations of our cooperation," said Chung.
Hyundai, operating in India since 1996, has grown to become one of the nation's top automobile manufacturers. Chung emphasized the company's long-term strategy, which includes expanding local production, enhancing product diversity, and establishing Hyundai as India's most trusted mobility brand. He also invited Modi to the opening of Hyundai's new manufacturing plant in Pune, Maharashtra, furthering the company's investment in India's industrial growth.
With the Indian government’s support, Hyundai aims to play a crucial role in shaping the future of mobility in the country, with a particular focus on EV adoption and sustainable transportation solutions.
