Captain Harpreet Chandi, a British Sikh Army officer and physiotherapist known popularly as Polar Preet for her Antarctic treks, recently set a new world record for being the fastest woman to finish a solo South Pole ski trip.
The 33-year-old took to her blog to announce that she had completed the 1,130-kilometer solo unsupported trek in just over 31 days. The effort will now be validated by Guinness World Records, and it might become her third world record after two record-breaking feats previously.
"Sooooo I did it again, just a little faster," Chandi wrote. “My expedition was a female speed record, I have applied for the GWR and awaiting confirmation. It does not belong to me alone. It belongs to everyone that helped me get here. It is ours. I’m sure I will not hold the record for long and will happily help the person who beats it,” she added.
Capt Chandi, from Sinfin in Derby, is currently on a break (unpaid leave) from the military, where she worked as a physiotherapist in Buckinghamshire, rehabilitating injured troops and officers.
In 2021, she made history by becoming the first woman of color to finish a 700-mile solo and unsupported Antarctic expedition to the South Pole.
When she returned in 2022, she set two World Records, including the longest solo unsupported one-way Polar ski adventure in history.
