A new leadership team of the India Association of Long Island (IALI) led by president Jasbir Jay Singh was sworn in during an oath-taking ceremony held at the Theodore Roosevelt Executive and Legislative Building in Nassau County.
Nassau County Comptroller Elaine Phillips, Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Jennifer DeSena, Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor Joseph Saladino, and other officials attended the event and administered the oath of office to Singh and his executive team, which includes vice president Ravindra Kumar, secretary Hargobind Gupta, treasurer Sujata Seth, and several members at large.
Singh assumed the presidency unopposed after all other nominees withdrew their candidacies in recognition of his contributions to the organization. Singh and his team will serve a one-year term, overseeing various initiatives and programs to support the Indo-American community in Long Island.
In his speech, Singh thanked the community for their support and emphasized his commitment to service. “I want to thank all of you for your trust and support. I recognize the immense responsibility that comes with this role and am dedicated to serving each member of our community. I also want to recognize the pillars of the IALI. Our purpose is Seva (service), not to rule. I aim to make you all proud, and I hope that, by the end of this year, everyone will look back and say that it was a successful year for IALI,” Singh said.
Comptroller Elaine Phillips highlighted the role of organizations like IALI in community development and commended Singh’s leadership. “The beauty of IALI is that the government cannot do it alone. We need organizations like yours to work alongside us to make our communities better. We are so fortunate to live in this community. It is such an honor for me tonight to swear in Jasbir Jay Singh as the new president.”
