ICCR announces scholarships for international students to study in India

The scholarship covers living allowances, contingent grants, thesis and dissertation expenses, and medical benefits

The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), an autonomous body under the Ministry of External Affairs India, in association with the High Commission of India across several countries, has announced scholarship slots to encourage international students to pursue the undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD programs in select Indian universities.

Applications are open for the academic year 2024-25, and scholarships are offered for courses teaching Indian culture such as dance, music, theatre, performing art, sculpture, Indian languages, Indian cuisine, etc.

The scholarships are also available for courses in engineering, science, agriculture, commerce and economics, Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences, etc. but do not include Medical/ Paramedical (Nursing/Physiotherapy/anesthesia, etc) /fashion/law courses /integrated courses such as BALLB (5 Years) / BSc & MSc (5 Years), etc.

To be eligible for the scholarships, applicants must be proficient in English, hold a valid passport for the entire duration of the course, and be medically fit. Applicants are also required to be a minimum of 18 years of age, as of Apr. 30, 2023, and not older than 30 years for undergraduate or postgraduate courses, and 45 years for PhD courses. The last day to submit applications is May 31, 2024.

More than 6,000 foreign students from around 120 countries are on the roll of ICCR at any given point. The scholarship covers living allowances, contingent grants, thesis and dissertation expenses, and medical benefits. Living allowance for the first three months is paid in advance in cash by ICCR regional offices or headquarters, and further payments are released monthly/quarterly after receipt of the joining report.

For interested students in the UK, applications are open under the following schemes – Atal Bihari Vajpayee General Scholarship Scheme (A1201), Dr A. P. J. Abdul Kalam Commonwealth Scholarship Scheme (A1203), and Lata Mangeshkar Dance and Music Scholarship Scheme (A1209).



For interested students in Ghana, applications are open under the following schemes -- Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam Commonwealth Scholarship Scheme (A1203), Lata Mangeshkar Dance and Music Scholarship Scheme (A1209), and The India-Africa Maitri Scholarship Scheme for Africa (G0179).
