IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi achieve highest-ever QS World University rankings

IIT Bombay has risen 31 places to rank 118th globally, while IIT Delhi has climbed to the 150th position, up from 197th last year.

The Indian Institutes of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) and Delhi (IIT Delhi) have achieved their highest-ever positions in the QS World University Rankings 2025. IIT Bombay has risen 31 places to rank 118th globally, while IIT Delhi has climbed to the 150th position, up from 197th last year.

A total score of 56.3 out of 100 was awarded to IIT Bombay in the QS World University Rankings, which were released on June 4, 2024. This is the first year that IIT Bombay has been ranked among the top 125 globally, marking a considerable improvement from last year's 149th position. 

The institute excelled particularly in employer reputation, scoring 86.0 and ranking 63rd worldwide in this parameter, which evaluates the perceptions of global employers regarding the employability of graduates. IIT Bombay also performed well in citations per faculty (79.1), academic reputation (58.5), and employment outcomes (64.5), although it lagged in international students, scoring just 1.3.

IIT Delhi also celebrated a major milestone, achieving its highest-ever rank of 150. This marks an improvement of 47 places from last year’s 197th position. Prof. Vivek Buwa, head of the rankings cell and dean of planning at IIT Delhi, attributed this success to the relentless efforts of the faculty, students, and staff.

I take this opportunity to congratulate all the faculty, students, and staff for this significant achievement. With its faculty and students pursuing high-quality research, innovation, and technology development to solve problems relevant to industry and society at large, the Institute has a strong potential to improve its rank further,” Prof. Buwa stated.

Both institutes have been recognized among the top Indian institutions in several QS ranking parameters. IIT Delhi ranked prominently in academic reputation, employer reputation, employment outcomes, and international research eetwork, featuring among the top five Indian institutions.
