Ike Anand, chief operating officer of the American Lebanese Syrian Associated Charities (ALSAC), the fundraising and awareness organization for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, will step into the role of interim CEO on March.1, 2025. This transition comes as Richard C. Shadyac Jr. moves on from his position as president and CEO.
Ike Anand, along with the executive leadership team, will lead ALSAC until a permanent CEO is appointed. The Board, with the help of a global executive search firm, is searching to select the seventh CEO in ALSAC’s 67-year history.
Anand will lead the organization’s operations during this period while Shadyac focuses on donor, partner, and external relations in an advisory capacity. The ALSAC Board of Directors will search for a permanent CEO globally.
As COO, Anand has played a key role in strengthening ALSAC’s operations and advancing its mission. His leadership will ensure a smooth transition as ALSAC continues its work to support St. Jude’s efforts to advance cures and treatments for pediatric catastrophic diseases.
Frederick M. Azar, M.D., chairman of the ALSAC Board of Directors, said, “We are grateful to Rick Shadyac for his selfless and tireless service to ALSAC and St. Jude. His direction has made it possible for St. Jude to deliver care and conduct vital research at a scale that was unimaginable 15 years ago and positions us well for the future.”
“ALSAC’s work ensures that we continue to seek advancements in medicine to find new ways to support children and families through some of the most challenging times of their lives,” he added.
Judy Habib, chair of the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Board of Governors, quoted the organization’s founder, Danny Thomas, “Those who work for the good are as those who do the good.” She believes this quote perfectly captures ALSAC’s commitment to the mission of finding cures and saving children. “Rick’s leadership over the past 15 years has driven remarkable progress at St. Jude, and we will be forever grateful for his contributions.”
Anand has over two decades of leadership experience across nonprofit, technology, and global business sectors.
As COO at ALSAC since 2020, Anand leads technology, digital products, analytics, donor experience, and operations, driving the organization’s digital transformation to support its strategic goals.
Before ALSAC, he spent over 14 years at Expedia Group, where he held key leadership roles, including global vice president of strategy, vice president of strategy and business development, and senior director of strategy.
Anand began his career at Sabre Holdings and also served as a partner and promoter at Heritage Paper, where he built and managed a global handmade paper business.
Sharing his gratitude, Anand posted on LinkedIn, “Thanks to the esteemed board of ALSAC/St. Jude for entrusting me with the responsibility of leading this impactful organization and transitioning to interim CEO on March 1. I look forward to continuing to do incredible things together with my amazing ALSAC team, our generous donors, and our committed partners!”
Anand holds an MBA in Strategy and Entrepreneurship from the Southern Methodist University Cox School of Business and was a recipient of the Dean's Merit Scholarship. He earned a BA (Hons) in Economics from the prestigious Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), Delhi University, where he was recognized as an honors student.
“Leadership means recognizing when it’s time to pass the torch, and I believe that time has come for ALSAC,” said Shadyac, the outgoing CEO.
He further shared, “We have a dedicated board and an exceptionally strong leadership team that will sustain the momentum of everything we have accomplished over the last 15 years. It has been the joy of my professional life to serve our patients and families, St. Jude, and my colleagues at ALSAC. I am deeply proud of all that ALSAC has achieved—and what it will achieve in the years to come. I have confidence in ALSAC’s ability to continue delivering on the St. Jude mission, thanks to the employees, volunteers, donors, and partners who are the lifeblood of this organization.”
