Illegal immigration crackdown: India, U.S. work together on deportations

India and U.S. collaborate on illegal immigration, deportations, and fraud crackdowns; 682 Indians deported since January 2025, MEA reports.

The Indian government is actively working to combat illegal immigration and fraudulent recruitment rackets, while coordinating with the U.S. on deportations, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) informed parliament on April 4.

Minister of State for External Affairs, Kirti Vardhan Singh, provided details on both the challenges and the actions being taken on illegal immigration.

Since the beginning of January 2025, the United States has deported 682 Indian nationals back to India. According to the Ministry, the vast majority of these individuals were apprehended while attempting to enter the U.S. illegally at the border.
