India Asia Cup 2023 squad announced

The tournament will run from August 30, 2023, to September 17, 2023.

The All-India Senior Selection Committee has announced India's squad for the 50-over Asia Cup 2023 a statement by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed. The tournament is scheduled to begin from August 30, 2023, to September 17, 2023.

The team lead by Rohit Sharma (captain) includes Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya (VC), Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, and Prasidh Krishna.

The BCCI statement said that Sanju Samson will be the traveling with the team as a stand-by player. Injured players KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, who pulled out of earlier international matches were declared fit and are set to make a comeback in the tournament.

On facing Pakistan at the tournament, captain Rohit Sharma said in a press conference, "It’s just not Pakistan; Sri Lanka won the Asia cup last time. Other good teams will challenge us. Not just one team, we have to prepare for all."

"There are five days camp in Bangalore. After a long time we have had the opportunity to get all the players in for some skill-based training. We can rectify our weakness. It is about the entire batting unit coming together and getting the job done," Sharma added. The iconic clash between India and Pakistan is set for September 2, 2023, in Kandy, Sri Lanka.

The tournament houses six teams divided into two groups. Pakistan, India and Nepal are in Group A, while Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka are in Group B. According to the Indian Cricket Council (ICC) statement, the tournament will follow a hybrid model with Pakistan hosting four matches across two venues and Sri Lanka hosting the remaining games.
