India-born American Dr Prasanth Reddy, a candidate for US Congress in the 3rd District of Kansas, has been endorsed by Republican Speaker Mike Johnson.

Currently a Lieutenant Colonel in the US Air Force Reserve, Reddy immigrated to the US from Chennai, when he was younger.

“As an immigrant, I've lived the American dream, and I've spent my life trying to give back to the country that gave me everything. My whole life, I've run toward problems,” Reddy said in a statement. “Whether it was serving cancer patients, or when I became a citizen and an officer in the Air Force Reserve after 9/11, I've always sought to be part of the solution.”

According to a recent poll conducted by WPA Intelligence, voters in Kansas' 3rd Congressional District are inclined to elect a Republican representative to Congress and exhibit strong support for Reddy.

The survey indicates that unaffiliated voters favor Reddy by a margin of 13 points, with 50% supporting him compared to 37% for his opponents. Moreover, men with college degrees, a substantial portion of the electorate, are backing him by a net margin of 5 points, with 47% in favor of Reddy compared to 42% for his opponents.

The Kansas seat is currently being held by Democrat Sharice Davids, who has been elected for three consecutive terms since 2018.

Reddy is a physician with triple board certification in internal medicine, medical oncology, and hematology. With over a decade of experience, he has practiced cancer medicine and held leadership roles in diverse clinical settings, including academia and private practice, primarily in the Kansas City metropolitan area.

Following his undergraduate studies in Microbiology and Psychology at Kansas State University, Reddy pursued a medical degree (M.D.) at the University of Kansas Medical School. He furthered his education by earning a Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) from the University of Kansas, supported by a National Institutes of Health (NIH) Clinical Research Curriculum Award Program.
