The Indian U-16 national football team defeated Bangladesh 2-0 in the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) final at Changlimithang Stadium in Thimphu, Bhutan, winning the tournament for the fifth time.
Bharat Lairenjam and Levis Zangminlun scored the game-winning goals, capping off their tournament-winning run.
In the eighth minute, India took the lead on a goal by Lairenjam, which was set up by Zangminlun. With this early advantage, India gained momentum and confidence. Zangminlun's goal in the 73rd minute cemented India's lead, which had been built by their stout defensive unit.
The squad led by coach Ishfaq Ahmed won both of their Group A matches by a single goal, edging out Bangladesh and Nepal. Their semi-final match against the Maldives was an offensive masterclass that resulted in an 8-0 victory. Notably, the team accomplished all of this without conceding a single goal throughout the tournament.
