India crucial to Myanmar’s recovery: AGS Myanmar chairman Adam Castillo

In his view, the US and its Quad partners, especially India, must offer assistance no local NGO can provide: rebuilding the country's foundations.

Adam Castillo, Chairman of AGS Myanmar, the country's leading security-risk management company, believes India can step up in wake of the devastation from the recent earthquake. “I look at India as probably the best facilitator…given their proximity to Myanmar. I believe there can be more cooperation, specifically with infrastructure rebuild via India, supported by the Quad in the US,” Castillo told.

The numbers emerging from Myanmar are grim. Nearly 4,000 deaths have been confirmed by local relief teams, but Castillo fears the true toll is far higher. The biggest obstacle, he explains, isn’t just the destruction, but the inability to reach the worst-hit areas like Sagang, which remains cut off due to collapsed bridges and broken roads.
