Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared the G20 Leaders Summit summit closed after handing over the ceremonial gavel of the G20 presidency to Brazil President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
Expressing faith in the Troika (the current, previous and the incoming presidencies) spirit, Modi asserted that Brazil will further the shared goals of member countries under its presidency, that is set to begin in November 2023.
Speaking of the outcomes and discussions of the New Delhi Summit, Modi said, “In these two days, all of you have put forth many things, given suggestions, made many proposals. It is our responsibility to look at the suggestions that have come forward to see how our progress can be accelerated,” Modi said in his speech.
Highlighting that India still had two months of its presidency left, the Indian Prime Minister suggested that the G20 leaders meet again for a virtual session in November to “review the topics” decided during the New Delhi summit.
Reiterating India’s G20 presidency theme “One Earth, One Family, One Future,” Modi concluded his speech by wishing for hope and peace in the entire world and thanking the heads of state for participating in the Summit.
