The Consulate General of India in New York, in partnership with the Federation of Indian Associations (FIA) of NY-NJ-CT-NE, hosted the 7th Annual International Women’s Day celebration at India House on Mar.7.
The event was led by Indian Union Minister for Women & Child Development Annapurna Devi, who served as the chief guest. The evening recognized four exceptional women for their achievements in various fields, highlighting a strong commitment to women’s empowerment and leadership.
This year’s honorees included Anu Aiyengar, global head of advisory and mergers & acquisitions, J.P. Morgan; Anjula Acharia, CEO and founder, A-Series Management & Investments; Wendy E. Diamond, CEO & founder, LDP Ventures and founder, Women’s Entrepreneurship Day Organization; and Seema Mody, reporter and anchor, CNBC.
The celebration began with a welcome reception and a presentation showcasing FIA’s efforts to promote diversity and gender equality.
In her keynote speech, Devi praised the vital role women play in strengthening ties between the two countries. She also spoke about her new initiative launched in Washington, D.C., on Feb.13, aimed at supporting women's development in social, economic, and technology sectors across both nations.
She said, "Women of both countries and the diaspora have consistently been at the forefront of developing and nurturing the relationship between America and India."
A panel discussion, moderated by Anu Sehgal of The Culture Tree, was a major highlight. The honorees shared their personal stories, career journeys, and challenges they overcame. They spoke about entrepreneurship, leadership, and the women who inspired them.
