India introduces biometric fast-track system for airport immigration
Managed online by the Bureau of Immigration, FTI-TTP aims to develop world-class immigration facilities with automated gates (e-Gates), which will minimise human intervention in the immigration clearance process.

India introduced a new immigration program on June.25 to streamline immigration for Indian nationals and Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) cardholders.
Inaugurating the ‘Fast Track Immigration – Trusted Traveller Programme’ (FTI-TTP) at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi, Home Minister Amit Shah said, "This programme is designed to benefit Indian citizens and OCI cardholders, reflecting our commitment to enhancing travel convenience and efficiency."

Managed online by the Bureau of Immigration, FTI-TTP aims to develop world-class immigration facilities with automated gates (e-Gates), which will minimise human intervention in the immigration clearance process.
Applicants must register online, providing necessary details and documents. Verified travellers will be added to a white list, with their biometrics captured at the FRRO office. The procedure calls for the "registered passenger" to scan the boarding pass they received from the airline at the electronic gates in order to obtain flight information. At the electronic gates, passengers will also have their biometric data authenticated and their passports scanned.
“The e-gate will open automatically once the passenger's identity and biometrics are authenticated, granting immigration clearance," explained Shah. Registration will be valid until the passport's expiry or for five years, whichever is earlier. It will be implemented in two phases: the first phase for Indian citizens and OCI cardholders, and the second phase for foreign travellers. The initiative
FTI-TTP will initially cover 21 major airports across India. In the first phase, it will launch at airports in Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kochi, and Ahmedabad, alongside Delhi, a statement issued by the government said.
