India invites diaspora youth for 82nd Know India Programme

The three-week immersion programme, aims to strengthen engagement between young overseas Indians and their ancestral homeland.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced the commencement of the 82nd edition of the Know India Programme (KIP).

The initiative, which invites diaspora youth aged 21 to 35 to visit India and experience various aspects of contemporary India, Indian life, cultural heritage, and art, is scheduled to take place from 12- 31 May.

Launched in 2003, the Know India Programme is a flagship initiative of the Government of India that aims to promote a deeper understanding of the country among the Indian diaspora. Since its inception, 2,513 People of Indian Origin (PIO) youth from 53 countries have participated in the programme. 

Notable participation has come from countries with significant diaspora populations such as South Africa, Mauritius, Fiji, Trinidad & Tobago, Guyana, Suriname, Myanmar, Australia, and the United States.

Selected participants will receive 90 percent subsidised return international airfare and local hospitality, including accommodation, transportation, and meals. Special preference is given to applicants from Girmitiya countries—Mauritius, Fiji, Suriname, Trinidad & Tobago, and Guyana.

The three-week itinerary includes visits to culturally and historically significant sites, interactions with Indian institutions, and exposure to Ayurveda, Indian classical music and dance, as well as visits to key government institutions such as the Parliament of India, Rashtrapati Bhawan, and the Election Commission of India. 

Those interested are encouraged to submit applications before April 18 via the KIP Portal.
