India is cooperating with the U.S. but not Canada, High Commissioner Sanjay Verma reveals
India is cooperating with the U.S. in the investigation of a foiled assassination attempt of Khalistani-supporter, Gurpatwant Singh Pannun

Sanjay Verma, the Indian High Commissioner in Canada revealed that India has not yet cooperated with Canada in the investigation related to Hardeep Singh Nijjar’s assassination due to lack of relevant information or evidence.
In an interview with Canadian channel CTV, the envoy confirmed that India is working with the U.S. instead, in another investigation regarding an alleged foiled assassination attempt.
Nijjar, a designated terrorist in India, and a Khalistani-supporter, was shot to death in Surrey, Vancouver, in June 18. In September, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau alleged in Parliament that India was involved in Nijjar’s death.
Trudeau has spoken about the Nijjar incident multiple times since first making the allegations in September but failed to provide substantial evidence. According to Verma, the PM’s comments have “damaged” the investigation and caused India to be painted guilty before the investigation’s conclusion.
Verma also said that India is not cooperating with Canada due to the latter’s inaction toward repeated requests to share relevant information and evidence to back the allegations made against India.
Verma also told CTV that India has extended cooperation to the U.S. in the country’s investigations into the alleged assassination attempt of Khalistani supporter Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. He said the U.S. authorities have provided more specific information regarding their investigation with India, unlike Canadian authorities.
"The investigation in case of the US as far as I know and understand … is at a much (more) advanced stage, and therefore, I presume, that there would be better information shared with India,” he told CTV, as per a report.
