India launches revamped e-Migrate portal and mobile app to enhance migration

The Indian government on Oct. 14 relaunched a newer version of their e-Migrate Portal along with a mobile app to streamline and safeguard the migration process for Indian workers heading abroad.
The revamped platform, which builds upon the existing e-Migrate portal, is aimed at providing greater transparency and inclusivity for workers, in line with India's commitment to ensuring their welfare in foreign lands.

Jaishankar, speaking at the launch, emphasized the government's focus on enhancing ease of living and people-centric governance. “The e-Migrate portal is more than just a digital platform; it is a beacon of hope and a symbol of our commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of our workers in foreign lands,” he said.

The upgraded portal, integrated with features such as 24/7 multilingual helplines and feedback mechanisms, will address the grievances of migrant workers, especially those stationed in the Gulf region. It is also equipped with a DigiLocker integration, enabling paperless submission and secure storage of important documents like passports and employment contracts.
Jaishankar highlighted the growing global demand for a well-trained workforce, adding that the revamped portal aligns with Goal 10 of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which promotes orderly and responsible migration. He also noted the strong collaboration between the Ministry of External Affairs and the Ministry of Labour and Employment in achieving this milestone.
The e-Migrate V2.0 portal offers additional services, including partnerships with over 560,000 Common Service Centres (CSC) across India to ensure greater access to migration services in regional languages. The platform is also working to broaden the social security net of emigrants, with plans to provide insurance policies and zero-transaction digital payment services in collaboration with the State Bank of India.
For the first time, an e-Migrate mobile app has been developed, making migration-related services more accessible on mobile devices. “Together, let us advance the shared objective of promoting safe, orderly, and legal mobility,” said Jaishankar, urging Indian talent to capitalize on the portal's opportunities for employment abroad.
