Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the team, writing on X, “Congratulations to the Indian cricket team on their splendid victory against New Zealand! It was a splendid team effort where everybody contributed. The dedication and skill on the field were exemplary.”
The clash at Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh witnessed a thrilling showdown, with a track set at a 300-plus total. Mohammed Shami clinched five wickets for 54 runs, marking his second five-wicket haul in an ODI World Cup. He thereby etched his name in the record alongside Anil Kumble. Virat Kohli scored 95 runs, leading India to a four-wicket victory over New Zealand with two overs to spare.
It marked the Indian cricket team’s first victory over New Zealand in the ODI World Cup since 2003. The match not only broke twenty years but also in the digital realm. It garnered 43 million viewers across the globe, becoming the most-watched online sports event in the entire world.
