The funding, amounting to $990,000, comes from the Commonwealth Window of the India-UN Development Partnership Fund.

It aims to refurbish centers for persons with disabilities, develop training curricula for various skill areas, adopt technology to improve mobility and access to social services, and establish a loan program for tools and equipment.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is also contributing $400,000 to this initiative, which is  part of Sierra Leone's broader national development priorities to support its disabled population in achieving economic independence while staying close to their home communities.

India and Sierra Leone maintain strong bilateral ties, with India’s development cooperation in the country reaching approximately $250 million through Lines of Credit and the ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development.

Additionally, over 450 Sierra Leone nationals have participated in online courses through India’s Pan-African Tele-Education and Tele-Medicine initiative (e-VBAB). Sierra Leoneans also benefit from various programs under India’s ITEC and ICCR scholarship schemes.

The India-UN Development Partnership Fund, established in 2017, focuses on projects that contribute to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Fund prioritizes national ownership, sustainability, and the development of local capacity. To date, India has committed $150 million to the Fund, supporting 86 projects across 65 countries.
