India is working towards an ambitious goal of producing 5 million metric tons (MMT) of green hydrogen annually by 2030 and expanding its renewable energy capacity to 500 GW. Additionally, the country aims to reduce its carbon intensity by 45 percent and achieve net-zero emissions by 2070.
“Major focus on biofuels, flex-fuel vehicles, ethanol blending, and green hydrogen. India is steadily progressing toward its goal of producing 5 million metric tons (MMT) of green hydrogen annually by 2030,” stated the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
Pankaj Jain, secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, emphasized that the event will accelerate projects in solar energy, hydrogen technology, and oil exploration, shaping India’s energy future.
At India Energy Week (IEW) 2025, held from Feb. 11-14 at the Yashobhoomi Convention Centre, New Delhi, India secured major investments and showcased innovation in the energy sector.
The event, organized by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas and the Federation of Indian Petroleum Industry (FIPI), has grown into the world’s second-largest energy conference, attracting exhibitors and investors from over 120 countries.
Oil and Gas Exploration Expansion: India launched OALP Round X, opening 200,000 sq. km for oil and gas exploration.
India-US Energy Ties: Strengthened LNG partnerships, targeting an increase in natural gas use from 6 percent to 15 percent in India’s energy mix.
Global Investments: Expanding oil and gas investments in Brazil, Venezuela, Russia, and Mozambique.
Energy Startups Recognized: The Avinya’25 Energy Startup Challenge and Vasudha Startup Challenge awarded innovative breakthroughs in carbon capture, AI-driven solutions, and renewable energy.
IEW 2025 featured nine thematic zones, including Hydrogen, Biofuels, Renewable Energy, LNG, Digitalization, and Petrochemicals, showcasing new advancements in sustainable energy solutions.
As the world’s third-largest energy consumer, India is balancing its growing energy demand with climate goals. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s "Panchamrit" strategy sets clear targets, including reducing carbon emissions by one billion tonnes by 2030 and sourcing 50 percent of energy from renewables by the same year.
