Team India dominated defending champions Sri Lanka in the final clash of the Asia Cup 2023 and won by ten wickets at the R Premadasa International Stadium in Colombo. The Men in Blue not only claimed their 8th Asia cup title but registered their highest victory margin (by balls remaining) in the ODI format.

Bowling first, India’s ace bowler Jasprit Bumrah struck as early as the third ball of the match and dismissed Sri Lankan opener Kusal Perara. Bumrah’s breakthrough was followed by Mohammed Siraj’s masterclass in bowling as he went on to claim four wickets in an over.

Siraj finished with a total of six wickets while Hardik Pandya got three to his name, packing up defending champions for a mere 50 runs. Indian openers Shubhman Gill and Ishan Kishan completed the chase in 6.1 overs to seal the match.

Speaking of his performance, player of the match, Siraj said “Have been bowling well for a long time and was missing the edges earlier. The wicket was seaming and there was swing also today. Thought I could bowl fuller because of the swing.”

The Player of the Series award went to Kuldeep Yadav, who picked up 9 wickets in five matches of the tournament, including an impressive five-wicket haul against Pakistan.

Commending the team, skipper Rohit Sharma said, “To come out and play like that in the final shows the mental character. Great start with the ball and a clinical finish with the bat. It was good to see that. Siraj has to be given a lot of credit, rare for seamers to move the ball in the air and off the pitch.”

Speaking of the team’s performance at the tournament, he said, “We did everything we could achieve as a team in this tournament. The way Hardik and Ishan batted in that pressure situation against Pakistan, and then KL and Virat getting hundreds, the way Gill has been batting. The guys have stood up at various stages.”
