With a 106-run victory in the second Test against England in Visakhapatnam, India not only leveled the series but also bounced back to second place in the ICC World Test Championship 2023–25 standings, narrowing the gap behind leaders Australia.
Earlier, after a rare defeat in the first Test in Hyderabad, India dropped from second to fifth position. However, their latest victory increased their point percentage to 52.77. The top half of the standings remains extremely competitive, with five teams separated by only 5 percent

India were under pressure going into the second Test match, but bowlers Ravichandran Ashwin and Jasprit Bumrah led the team to a 106-run victory, each taking three wickets.
England, chasing 399 for victory, appeared to be on track at 95-1 until losing five wickets in the morning session, changing the tide in India's favor. Opener Zak Crawley struck 73, with Ben Foakes and Tom Hartley adding over 30 runs each down the order.
However, the opponents eventually succumbed, being all out for 292 in the second session of day four. The third test in Rajkot is slated to commence on February 15.
Indians however seem to be on a backfoot after in-form batsman and crucial fielder Shubhman Gill sustained an injury in the second test. The team already has been grappling without Virat Kohli and KL Rahul in the batting lineup and Ravindra Jadeja in the bowling side.
