The India Association of Minnesota, a Minnesota-based non-profit organization dedicated to promoting cultural understanding and heritage, hosted its 41st annual IndiaFest on Aug.17, at the Minnesota State Capitol Grounds, drawing over 25,000 attendees.
This event, held to commemorate India's Independence Day, showcased the vibrant and diverse culture of the Asian Indian community in Minnesota. Festival-goers experienced a wide array of activities, including authentic Indian cuisine, music, and dance performances, highlighted by a special appearance from award-winning singer Nazia Alam.
The event also featured cultural exhibits, traditional games, and a bustling Indian Bazaar. “It's important that we share our culture with each other and celebrate freely with our community here in Minnesota,” said Meena Bharti, president of the India Association of Minnesota.
“From those connecting with their Indian heritage to those experiencing the culture for the first time, it’s our mission to bridge our communities and give everyone a true experience of India,” Bharti added.
IndiaFest, now recognized as the second-largest Asian Indian festival in the Midwest, continues to strengthen community ties and promote cultural understanding, reflecting the growing influence of the Asian Indian population in Minnesota.
