Indian-American changemakers feature on TIME's 100 Next List
This year’s list includes two notable Indian American leaders whose impactful work in housing advocacy and climate innovation has garnered global attention.

TIME magazine has revealed its 2024 TIME100 Next list, celebrating 100 emerging leaders who are driving change and shaping the future across various fields. This year’s list includes two notable Indian American leaders whose impactful work in housing advocacy and climate innovation has garnered global attention.
Under Leaders who are working to advocate for and expedite climate action and sustainable solutions, Tara Raghuveer, a housing advocate born in Australia to Indian immigrant parents, has been recognized for her efforts in organizing tenants' unions to fight for renters' rights in the U.S.
Raised in Kansas City, Raghuveer founded a tenants' union in her community and has since expanded her efforts nationally with the launch of the Tenant Union Federation. Her work is transforming the conversation around housing rights and working-class solidarity.
"Her organizing could impact millions and shift our national conversation about housing," wrote Sara Nelson, the international president of the Association of Flight Attendants. Raghuveer’s advocacy has become a driving force in empowering renters and challenging corporate control in the housing sector.
In the Innovators category, Aadith Moorthy, an Indian American engineer and climate-tech entrepreneur, was recognized for his groundbreaking work in carbon sequestration.
As the founder of Boomitra, Moorthy is using artificial intelligence to incentivize farmers to adopt climate-friendly agricultural techniques that sequester carbon, effectively turning the agriculture sector into a solution to the climate crisis.
Boomitra has already removed 10 million metric tons of CO2 from the atmosphere, and Moorthy’s ambitions are set even higher. "Moorthy hopes to double that in short order," writes Jeremy Gantz, highlighting his vision to create climate solutions at a planetary scale.
TIME Editor-in-Chief Sam Jacobs explained the significance of this year's honorees: "We aim with this annual franchise to recognize rising leaders who are not waiting long in life to make an impact and who are redefining what leadership looks like."
Both Raghuveer and Moorthy are poised to continue making lasting contributions to their fields and beyond. They will be celebrated at the 2024 TIME100 Next event in New York on Oct. 9.
