Dr Rajeev Gautam, the former president and CEO of Honeywell Performance Materials and Technologies, donated $250,000 to boost the academic and research endeavors of the institute’s chemical engineering department.

The sum will establish three endowed programs to advance excellence in the field through a tripartite memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between IIT-K, IIT Kanpur Foundation, and Dr Gautam.

The endowed programs include the Om Prakash Gautam endowed faculty chair, the Rajeev and Joyce Gautam faculty fellowship, and the Rajeev and Joyce Gautam Travel Grant for students.

Alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT-K), Gautam graduated from the institute in 1974. He expressed pride in giving back to his alma mater, emphasizing the institute’s pivotal role in shaping his professional journey. He also highlighted that endowed programs will empower emerging researchers and foster academic excellence in chemical engineering.

Professor S. Ganesh, director of IIT Kanpur, lauded Gautam’s generosity, highlighting the programs’ potential to enhance research efforts, recognize young faculty talent, and provide global exposure opportunities for students.

Similarly, professor Kantesh Balani, dean of resources and alumni at IIT Kanpur, praised Gautam’s vision, noting the enduring impact the endowed programs will have on research excellence in chemical engineering.

Meanwhile, the MoU signifies a significant milestone in IIT Kanpur’s pursuit of academic excellence and underscores the institution’s commitment to fostering innovation, scholarship, and global engagement in Chemical Engineering.

“Dr. Rajeev Gautam’s transformative gift reaffirms the institute’s culture of excellence and sets the stage for further advancements in the field,” an official statement by the institute noted.
