Indian American facilitates NIT Trichy, Illinois Institute of Technology partnership

The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Trichy and Chicago, USA-based Illinois Institute of Technology have joined forces to empower NITT students.
The partnership was facilitated by Indian American investor and CEO of Lyfty, Ram S. Ramanujam, an alumnus of NIT Trichy’s 1974 batch and Illinois Tech’s 1981 batch.
The partnership, signed on November 21, 2023, was in collaboration with Drs. Ram and Thaila Ramanujam Foundation of California, NITT USA/RECAL, and the NITT 1974-Batch.
The foundation has pledged a minimum of five annual grants for the next decade, totaling over $330,000, to support academic research and graduate studies for NITT junior and senior students, according to an official release.
Two scholarships, valued at $20,000 each, are exclusively designated for deserving female students who are the first in their families to pursue college degrees at NIT Trichy.
Additionally, an accelerated partnership between NIT-Trichy and Illinois Tech is also underway to allocate grants of approximately $330,000 over the next ten years.
This financial assistance, exclusive for the benefit of NITT students and faculty, will foster scholarship opportunities in key research areas enabling qualified NITT candidates to pursue MS/PhD degrees at Illinois Tech or other institutions in India or abroad.
Dr Aghila, the director of NIT Trichy, said, “This remarkable initiative will undoubtedly catalyze the pursuit of academic excellence among our students. We are deeply grateful to the Drs. Ram and Thaila Ramanujam Foundation and RECAL for their unwavering commitment to supporting our students’ aspirations.”
Raja Renganathan, president of the NIT Trichy USA Alumni Association, further remarked, “The impact of these scholarships and additional assistance through Illinois Tech by Dr. Ram S. Ramanujam will resonate for years to come, shaping the educational journeys of numerous deserving students. It’s a testament to the enduring legacy of our alma mater.”
