Ajay Bhutoria, an Indian American fundraiser associated with the Democratic Party and Vice President Kamala Harris, has reported receiving a series of sectarian threats from an unidentified source demanding that Bhutoria leave the United States and "return to India".
Bhutoria serves as the Deputy National Finance Chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and is a member of the President's Advisory Commission on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders. His roles focus on addressing issues facing Asian American communities and supporting legal immigrants.
One of the messages alleged, "You claim that you are doing what's best for Americans, but you aren't doing anything for Americans and you don't care about America. You are Indian. You only care about Indians." Another part of the message accused him of being a "beggar in America" and urged him to seek "status in India."
Bhutoria shared the messages publicly, attributing them to supporters of President-elect Donald Trump and pointing to the broader challenges that immigrants continue to face. "These kinds of attacks highlight the racial discrimination that immigrants and minority communities often endure," he said.
Bhutoria has been a vocal advocate for immigrant rights and inclusion, working to build support within the legal immigrant community across the United States. His experience, he stated, reflects the need for continued dialogue on race and the experiences of immigrants in the U.S.
