Indian American Impact denounces J.D. Vance as Trump’s VP

Former President Donald Trump chose U.S. Senator JD Vance of Ohio to be his running mate on July 15.

Indian American Impact, a leading national civic and political organization for Indian and South Asian Americans, has criticized former President Donald Trump’s selection of J.D. Vance as his running mate. In a statement, the organization asserted that this choice confirms catering towards the most extreme, right-wing factions of the MAGA movement.

Chintan Patel, Indian American Impact’s executive director said, “We are not surprised by President Trump’s choice of extremist J.D. Vance as his vice presidential candidate. Our nation deserves leadership that celebrates our communities’ diversity, recognizes our contributions, and ensures everyone has a seat at the table. America’s greatest strength lies in its people and their varied backgrounds and experiences.”

According to Patel, J.D. Vance exemplifies an unwavering devotion to Trump’s agenda, including the dangerous Project 2025. “From restrictive abortion policies to election denialism, and harsh immigration stances, J.D. Vance’s positions are antithetical to the inclusive and progressive values that South Asian American communities and our nation stand for,” Patel added.

Former President Donald Trump chose U.S. Senator JD Vance of Ohio to be his running mate on July 15 as he seeks to return to the White House.

Vance rose to prominence as the author of "Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis," widely acclaimed as one of the foremost works capturing the personal narrative of the struggling White working class in middle America, a demographic that formed a core part of Trump's 2016 support base amidst social and economic challenges.

Initially critical of Trump, Vance later embraced the leader and became a fervent advocate and effective spokesperson for Trump's perspectives on trade, immigration, and foreign policy. He has since assumed a mentorship role and supports a younger generation of national conservatives who advocate for an "America first" vision.

“Just overwhelmed with gratitude. What an honor it is to run alongside President Donald J. Trump. He delivered peace and prosperity once, and with your help, he'll do it again. Onward to victory!” Vance said in a post on X.
