Indian-American Judge Arun Srinivas Subramanian has been appointed to preside over the high-profile federal case involving music mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs, who faces charges of sex trafficking, racketeering, and sexual abuse.

Combs, who was arrested on Sept. 16, has had his trial date set for May 5, 2025, after a hearing on Oct. 10 in the Southern District of New York.

Judge Subramanian, born to Indian immigrant parents in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was confirmed by the U.S. Senate in March 2023, making him the first South Asian to serve on the Southern District's bench.

His legal background includes previous clerkships with Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Judge Dennis Jacobs of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

Before his judicial appointment, Subramanian worked as a partner at Susman Godfrey LLC, where he focused on commercial and bankruptcy law, recovering over $1 billion for public and private entities in fraud cases.

Combs, 54, remains in federal custody after his bail was denied twice. His legal team has filed appeals, asserting that the charges are speculative and lack sufficient evidence. During the recent hearing, several of Combs' children, including Quincy Brown, Justin Combs, and Chance Combs, were present.
