In retaliation for what it believed was an Israeli assault on its consulate in Damascus a week earlier, which killed thirteen people, Iran fired a barrage of missiles and drones towards Israel on April 13 and into the early hours of April 14.

Indian American Congress members have condemned the attack against Israel. Taking to microblogging site X (formerly Twitter) Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal said, “The Iranian government’s attack on Israel is another dangerous escalation in what could quickly become a larger regional war.  I strongly condemn this attack as well as the precipitating hostilities that led to this place. At this moment, we need a focus on de-escalation.”

“I appreciate Biden’s clear communication to the Israeli gov that the US will not join any military retaliation that escalates hostilities. Our efforts must be on reaching an immediate ceasefire, getting humanitarian aid into Gaza & releasing all hostages. That is the way forward,” she added.

Congressman Ro Khanna “unequivocally condemned” the attack against Israel. “This escalation is dangerous and a blatant violation of international law. The US and our allies need to be clear that Iran's actions are unacceptable and stop this from escalating into a regional war,” he said in a post on X.

Referring to Israel as a “key ally in the Middle East,” Congressman Shri Thanedar said, “Our commitment to Israel's safety and security will never waver. I am monitoring developments closely and will continue to stand with the people of Israel in their time of need.”

Representative Ami Bera, senior Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, reiterated America’s support for Israel’s security and assured that it will remain “ironclad.”

Additionally,New York State Assemblywoman Jenifer Rajkumar condemned Iran’s “unconscionable act” against Israel. “I am proud that the United States of America provided aid to finance the David's Sling and Iron Dome air defense systems, which intercepted 99% of all Iranian missiles and drones. But tragically, a 7-year-old Israeli-Bedouin girl was severely injured by shrapnel from an Iranian missile. It is innocent civilians like her who suffer most during war, and the nations of the world must come together and use every diplomatic tool to prevent further war and destruction,” she said in a statement.
