Indian American lawmakers in the U.S Congress have extended greetings to the Muslim community and everyone celebrating the holy month of Ramadan/Ramzan that started on March 11.
Muslims across the world observe fasting from sunrise to sunset for the whole month followed by an Eid-ul-Fitr celebration after 30 days. Eid-ul-Fitr 2024 is expected to fall on April 8, 2024.
Aside from fasting, Muslims across the world practice giving sadaqah (charity), paying Zakat (obligatory donation), praying regularly, offering the voluntary Taraweeh prayer which is performed after the evening prayer every single night during Ramadan, and reading the holy Quran.
Rep. Pramila Jayapal wrote on X, “Ramadan is a beautiful tradition for cleansing the body, spirit, and soul. Despite the tremendous pain in Muslim communities around the world right now, I hope those celebrating are able to join with family & friends to renew their faith during this sacred month. Ramadan Mubarak!”
