Indian American presidential candidates back Israel after Hamas’ surprise attacks
On 7 October, the Palestinian militant organization Hamas initiated a sustained rocket assault in southern Israel.

Prominent Indian Americans, including two Republican presidential contenders, Nikki Haley and Vivek Ramaswamy, have shown strong support for Israel in the wake of unprecedented attacks by the Hamas militant group, resulting in a significant loss of lives.
On October 7, the Palestinian militant organization Hamas initiated a sustained rocket assault in southern Israel, resulting in a tragic toll of over 600 casualties, including civilians and soldiers. Additionally, more than 1,900 people sustained injuries due to these attacks.
In response to the rocket attacks by Hamas, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) launched numerous airstrikes aimed at hitting critical Hamas infrastructure. The conflict has led to a confirmed death toll of approximately 1,000 individuals in both Israel and Gaza, marking the most significant escalation in decades between these two conflicting parties.
“Hamas and the backers who support them, the Iranian regime, were chanting 'Death to Israel, death to America.' That's what we have to remember. We are united with Israel because Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis and the Iranian backers hate us,” Republican presidential candidate Haley told NBC News.
“We have to remember that what happened to Israel could happen here in America. And I hope that we all unite and stand with Israel because they need us right now,” she said. In a post on X, Haley told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to “finish them (Hamas)”, she added.
Another Indian American Republican candidate, Ramaswamy, emphasized that the crucial takeaway for America from the attack on Israel is the importance of not becoming complacent when it comes to defending its borders.
"If it can happen there, it can happen here. Our border is completely porous right now. The Southern Border is a disaster and I visited the Northern Border yesterday which is wide open for invasion. Hamas picked a moment when Israel is deeply divided over domestic politics, as we are now here at home,” he said.
