Indian American professor receives Global Engineering Education Award

Sunderesh Heragu, regents professor and John Hendrix chair at Oklahoma State University’s School of Industrial Engineering and Management, has been named the recipient of the Industrial Engineering and Operations Management (IEOM) Global Engineering Education Award.
The award, honoring Heragu’s significant contributions to global engineering education, will be presented on December 3, 2024 at the IEOM Oman Conference Awards Ceremony in Muscat, Oman.
“I am humbled and honored to receive this global recognition from a society I have admired for a number of years,” Heragu said. “My thoughts on important engineering topics have been disseminated via my books, papers, taIks, op-eds and educational products, which are used throughout the world. My students and colleagues have helped shape these thoughts. For that, I will always be grateful. I stand on the shoulders of my students and collaborators, so this award is also a recognition of their contributions.”
Heragu’s career spans academic roles at OSU, the University of Louisville, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, as well as visiting appointments at institutions including the University of Twente and IBM’s Thomas J. Watson Research Center. He has authored over 250 articles and the 5th edition of Facilities Design.
He has also led research projects worth more than $27 million, funded by organizations such as the Department of Homeland Security and National Science Foundation. Heragu is a Fellow of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE) and has received numerous accolades, including the Albert G. Holzman Distinguished Educator Award.
In addition to receiving the award, Heragu will deliver a keynote at the 2nd GCC International Conference on IEOM from December 1-3, 2024. His address will focus on supply chain challenges and opportunities in the post-COVID-19 era, covering topics such as automation, climate change, and migration.
The IEOM Society International, a nonprofit with 250 chapters in 55 countries, hosts conferences and promotes industrial engineering disciplines globally.
