The Valley Indian Seniors Association (VISA), a non-profit dedicated to serving Indian senior citizens living in and around Sherman Oaks, celebrated American Independence Day by hosting Senator Caroline Menjivar and Councilmember Nithya Raman this month.
The guests discussed initiatives designed to enhance the lives of seniors. They also served as judges for a patriotic costume contest and evaluated the best Red, White, and Blue outfits.
Attendees enjoyed samosas, chai, and lunch alongside their distinguished guests. The non-profit has previously organized programs that have included a diverse array of activities such as informational sessions with Hindi-speaking doctors, performances by local artists, and motivational talks by spiritual leaders.
These events are complemented by themed activities that celebrate various aspects of life, including patriotic costume contests, bingo games, and singing activities. According to the organizers, the gatherings are aimed at educating, empowering, and entertaining senior members.
The organization is open to new members and actively seeks dedicated board members to further expand its services and support for the Indian senior community.
