Indian American students bag 2025 Marshall Scholarships

The British Government has announced the 36 recipients of the 2025 Marshall Scholarship, a prestigious award recognizing exceptional academic achievement, leadership, and ambassadorial potential. 

Among the winners are Indian Americans— Tej Patel and Sridatta Teerdhala from the University of Pennsylvania, and Pratyush Seshadri from the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill.

Tej Patel, from Billerica, Massachusetts, is studying molecular biology and healthcare management. He aims to pursue an MSc in Global Health Science and Epidemiology and an MSc in Applied Digital Health at the University of Oxford. A 2024 Truman Scholar, Patel has published health economics research and co-founded the Social Equity Action Lab.

Sridatta Teerdhala, from Richardson, Texas, is studying biology and economics with a focus on healthcare innovation. He plans to pursue an MPhil in Medical Sciences at the University of Cambridge, followed by a master’s in Health Policy at the London School of Economics. Teerdhala conducts research on cancer immunotherapy and supports homeless healthcare initiatives.

Pratyush Seshadri, a Morehead-Cain scholar at UNC-Chapel Hill, is majoring in economics and mathematics. He plans to pursue an MPhil in Economics at the University of Oxford, focusing on climate change mitigation strategies. Seshadri is co-founder of Visibility Forward, advocating for Asian American history curricula, and has conducted macroeconomic research in Johannesburg and New York.

Established in 1953 as a tribute to the U.S. for the Marshall Plan, the scholarship funds graduate studies in the U.K., fostering educational and cultural exchange between the two nations. This year, 36 scholars were selected from 983 applicants representing 26 institutions across the U.S.
