Four distinguished women were recognized for their remarkable achievements and contributions to society on the occasion of International Women's Day.
Maharani Radhikaraje Gaekwad, Neena Singh, Dr. Indu Lew, and Megha Desai were the honorees at the 6th edition of the International Women's Day commemoration event hosted by the Consulate General of India in New York and the Federation of Indian Associations (FIA).
The FIA described Gaekwad as a visionary dedicated to education and community empowerment through her philanthropic endeavors.
Singh, recognized as the first Indian and Sikh woman Mayor in New Jersey, is renowned for her commitment to mental wellness and active community engagement. “To be honored for your leadership at the Indian Consulate was an amazing feeling. My heartfelt thanks to the Federation of Indian Associations and the Counsel General for the honor ceremony last night, Singh said in a post on Instagram. “Incredible India and an incredible event, a beautiful ceremony, so wonderful to meet such inspiring women who are working diligently to bring change!”
Lew's journey from a clinical pharmacist to her current role as the executive vice president and chief of staff at RWJBarnabas Health showcases her exceptional leadership in the healthcare sector. Desai, serving as the president of the Desai Foundation, leads efforts aimed at enhancing health, livelihood, and menstrual equity for women and children in rural India, according to the release.
The event "recognised the achievements of four extraordinary women, celebrating their significant contributions across various fields and reinforcing a commitment to empowerment and recognition."
Consul General of India in New York Binaya Pradhan and FIA President Dr. Avinash Gupta, speaking at the Consulate, recognized the crucial role of women in society and the substantial progress achieved in women's empowerment in India. They celebrated the spirit of International Women's Day and commended the contributions of the awardees, the release said.
