Indian-American organizations are hosting peaceful rallies in Washington DC and Chicago to raise awareness about the increasing violence against Hindus in Bangladesh.
The first rally, titled "Genocide of Hindus in Bangladesh”, will take place on Dec.9, near the White House in Washington DC.
Another event called, "Stop the Genocide: Save Hindu Lives in Bangladesh," was on Dec.8, in Chicago. Both rallies are led by HinduAction, a prominent advocacy group, along with other community leaders.
Over the past few months, Indian-Americans have started www.stophindugenocide.org to document the alleged crimes against Hindus in Bangladesh.
According to this website, “The Hindu minority in Bangladesh, constituting less than 10% of the population, has been declining dangerously over the years as they are subjected to relentless violence, discrimination and forced conversions.”
Organizers have expressed concern over the escalation of violence against Hindus in Bangladesh, where there have been reports of attacks on temples, homes, and individuals. They point to an alarming pattern of assaults, including videos showing violent incidents, such as the assault of men, women, and children at a Hindu temple during a Diwali celebration.

The protests aim to raise awareness about the situation and to urge government officials to take stronger action. Utsav Chakravarti, the executive director of HinduAction, has called on the Biden-Harris administration to take measures to address the ongoing violence in Bangladesh, which has been particularly intense since the political changes in August 2023.
Over 200 attacks have reportedly taken place across nearly 50 districts in Bangladesh, affecting Hindu communities in various regions. Organizers argue that this violence is part of a broader pattern of escalating intolerance and discrimination against Hindus in the country.
The protests are intended to be peaceful gatherings, with participants calling for international attention and urging for meaningful steps to be taken to protect the Hindu community in Bangladesh.
