Indian-Americans in Long Island participate in car rally to celebrate T20 World Cup victory

A jubilant car rally was organized by Indian Americans in Hicksville, New York, to celebrate India's historic triumph in the T20 World Cup on June.29. The event, spearheaded by Mukesh Modi, saw a large turnout from the local Indian community, showcasing their national pride and love for cricket.

The rally commenced from the India Association of Long Island (IALI) Center in Hicksville, a hamlet in Nassau County, known for its significant Indian population. Numerous cars, adorned with Indian flags, participated in the event. The procession traveled through key locations including Patel Brothers, Maharaja, and Apna Bazar before returning to the IALI Center.

Participants expressed their joy by chanting patriotic slogans such as “Bharat Mata ki Jai” and “Vande Mataram”. The rally was put together swiftly by Mukesh Modi, with support from Nitin Khurana, Kishore Malik, Indu Jaiswal, Shashi Goyal, Tony Kejriwal, Beena Sabapathy, Prafulba Vaghela, Neeru Bhambri, and Surin Manaktala.

The idea for the celebration came about after a phone conversation between Modi and Khurana, who decided to mark India's historic win with an impromptu rally. Modi expressed his gratitude to Khurana and the other organizers for their support and dedication to the event.

Rajesh Kumar of Bengali Sweets contributed to the celebrations by distributing hot jalebis to all participants. Modi, a filmmaker, described the car rally as a tribute to India's T20 World Cup victory, marking 17 years since their last win in the tournament.

Reflecting on the achievement, he said, "Finally, Rohit Sharma got a feather in his hat before his retirement, and India won the T20 World Cup. Many congratulations to all the players, the entire India Team, and the ICCI Board for this victory. After years of patience and countless efforts, our Team won the T20 World Cup. This is a proud and significant moment for every Indian."
