Indian Americans have once again made a significant mark on the global AI landscape, with several individuals featured on TIME's prestigious '100 Most Influential People in AI 2024' list. From tech giants to AI startups, these individuals are at the forefront of AI innovation, shaping the future of the technology and its impact on society.
The 2024 TIME 100 AI list features 40 CEOs, founders and co-founders, but recognised as leaders are two Indian Americans Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet ,riving innovation in search engine technology and AI development, and Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, who has made strategic investments in AI, including OpenAI, positioning Microsoft as a key player in the AI revolution.
Rohit Prasad, senior vice president and head scientist at Amazon,was also named as one of the leaders on the list for his efforts in developing artificial general intelligence (AGI)—or an AI smart as a human at the company.
Aravind Srinivas, CEO of Perplexity, who is is challenging traditional search engines with his disruptive AI-powered "answer engine', Anant Vijay Singh of Proton and Shiv Rao, co-founder and CEO of Abridge which is tackling doctor burnout with an AI-powered medical scribe were named as innovators in AI.
Dwarkesh Patel, a 23-year-old Bay Area resident, who has built one of the most deeply-researched podcasts on artificial intelligence, was recognised as an AI thinker for his thorough and technical explorations of the subject.
Vinod Khosla, founder of Khosla Ventures, is a pioneer in AI investment, advocating for its transformative potential was recognized under the category of shapers of the AI industry along with Arati Prabhakar, President Biden's top technology advisor and Divya Siddarth of the Collective Intelligence Project, who is advocating for democratized AI development and governance.
