The Indian badminton duo, Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, broke another record by holding the no. 1 men’s doubles pair position for 10 weeks. Previously, the pair broke the record for being the first Indians to clinch the gold at Asian Games. They broke the record held by Saina Nehwal in 2015.

Apart from winning the Asian Games, the duo won at the China Masters, Malaysia Open, India Open, the French Open and BWF World Tour 1000 series.

They reached their peaks in Badminton World Federation ranking on Oct. 12, 2023. After a brief hiatus, they climbed no. 1 again in January.

With a tally of 102,303 points on the leaderboard as of Mar. 26, they left a margin of 5,000 points for the next top players in the list. The world no. 2 doubles’ pair, South Korea’s Kang Min-hyuk and Seo Seung-jae, stood at 97,261 points. Rankireddy and Shetty were the 5th pair to cross the 100k points mark.

Shetty expressed his joy at becoming the 5th pair to cross the 100k mark. He wrote, “A bit late to post but happy to be part of the 1,00,000 points club! Thanks to everyone who made this milestone possible. Your support means the world to us.”

Individually, Rankireddy held a career record of 314 wins and 159 losses. He held the Guinness World record for the fastest hit in badminton, at 565 kmph, while Shetty has over 8 BWF World tour titles in doubles’ events, with 5 runners-up.

Both the players received the Arjuna award in 2020 and Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna in 2023.
