Known on Instagram as "Indian Canadian Couple", Danielle and Ekansh used humor and candor to share the myths they were told about each other’s cultures. Captioned, "Lies which were fed to us before marriage. Real love wins over stereotypes," the video has amassed over 10.7 million views and sparked widespread discussions.
In the video, Danielle revealed some of the misconceptions she encountered. “Before marrying my Indian husband, people told me that Indians have two wives,” she shared, dismissing the notion with a laugh. She also encountered baseless warnings about Indians not using deodorant and concerns about her safety in India.
Ekansh, on the other hand, recounted stereotypes about Canadians, such as the idea that Danielle would divorce him or mistreat his parents. He also joked about being warned that his wife would take his money and leave him penniless.
Social Media Sparks Broader Conversations
The couple’s post struck a chord, with users flooding the comments section with reactions ranging from disbelief to humor. “I have never heard the stereotype of Indians having two wives,” one user wrote, echoing the sentiments of many who found some of the misconceptions absurd.
Others shared their personal experiences. A user commented, “Before marrying an Indian man, my family said he would leave me once he got his green card. We’ve been married for 17 years!” Another chimed in with a lighthearted remark about the stereotype of Indian men having two wives: “People aren’t able to handle one wife. Two? Neither legal nor practical!”

Broader Cultural Tensions Highlighted
While Danielle and Ekansh’s video focused on breaking stereotypes with humor, it comes amid a backdrop of other cultural debates involving Indian-Canadian relations. Earlier this month, a Canadian citizen sparked controversy by alleging that Indian women were traveling to Canada specifically to give birth and secure citizenship for their children.
The video, posted by Chad Eros, claimed that maternity wards in Canada were overcrowded with Indian women taking advantage of the healthcare system. While Eros acknowledged that Canadian hospitals should provide equal care to all patients, he expressed concern about the alleged strain on resources.
The post garnered mixed reactions. Some supported Eros’ claims, while others criticized him for promoting stereotypes and failing to account for the complexities of immigration and healthcare.
Despite these tensions, Danielle and Ekansh’s video has been praised for its positive message. By addressing stereotypes with humor and sincerity, they have reminded viewers that love and mutual respect can transcend cultural divides.
