The Sydney Hindus and Indians’ Volunteers Association Inc. a volunteer group of NSW-based Indian diaspora, participated in a tree-planting event on July 28 to commemorate National Tree Day, Australia’s largest community tree-planting and nature care event.

Every year, many Australians volunteer in environmental activities on Tree Day to make a difference in the environment. During the event organized by the Blacktown City Council at Waite Reserve, Acacia Gardens, the SHIVA volunteers planted many saplings to secure a sustainable future.

Commenting on the significance of the event, T Nivedita Singh, Climate and Sustainability lead from SHIVA, told New Indian Abroad, “The SHIVA community is volunteering at this event to let future generations connect with the very core of Santan Dharma of respecting and protecting the nature we exist in. It is to bring together the spirit of community to build a greener, healthier environment.”
