A group of individuals trespassed into the Indian Consulate in Seattle after office hours on Feb. 7, prompting authorities to intervene.

Describing the incident as a "law and order situation,” the consulate in a statement on X said, “Today, the Consulate was forced to deal with a law and order situation arising from the unauthorized entry by certain individuals into the Consulate premises after office hours.”

“We were compelled to call in relevant local authorities to deal with the situation. Further action is being initiated against the trespassers,” the consulate added.

Reports allege that the incident was linked to a protest by Indian-American political activist Kshama Sawant, who claimed her Indian visa had been rejected three times. Sawant, along with members of Workers Strike Back, engaged in what she described as “peaceful civil disobedience” at the consulate, demanding an explanation for the visa denial.

Sawant stated on X that while her husband, Calvin Priest, was granted an emergency visa to visit her ailing mother in India, her own application was rejected. “They granted him an emergency visa but rejected mine, literally saying my name is on a ‘reject list.’ And refusing to give an explanation why,” she wrote.

The incident comes just weeks after External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar reiterated India’s demand for accountability regarding the 2023 attack on the Indian Consulate in San Francisco, which he termed a “very serious matter.”
