The Indian Embassy in Washington, D.C., in partnership with the International Hindi Association (IHA), has announced a Hindi speech competition to commemorate Vishwa Hindi Diwas 2025.
The event aims to encourage the use of Hindi among high school students across the United States, promoting awareness of Indian culture and traditions.
The competition, open to students in grades 9 to 12, including homeschooled participants, offers two categories: essay and short story. Essay topics include “Indian Culture and Traditions” and “Why Should Young People in America Learn Hindi?” For the short story category, students are required to share personal experiences, anecdotes, or memoirs.
Dr. Shail Jain, representing the IHA, highlighted the importance of the event, stating, "Our mission is to ensure that future generations of Indians abroad embrace Hindi not only as a language but as a vessel of cultural pride and heritage."
Participants must register by January 3, 2025, and submit their entries in MP4 video format, with a maximum duration of three minutes, by January 8, 2025. Winners will be announced on January 10, 2025, and awarded by the Indian Embassy. Winning entries will also be featured in IHA’s quarterly journal, Vishwa.
The International Hindi Association, founded in 1980, has worked to promote Hindi and its literature in the United States, emphasizing its role in preserving Indian cultural heritage.
