Indian missions in US celebrate 76th Republic Day

Indian consulates across America marked the 76th Republic Day of India on Jan.26, uniting the Indian diaspora in celebration.

The 76th Republic Day of India was celebrated across the US on Jan.26, uniting the Indian diaspora to honor the nation's heritage and democratic values.

The Consulate General of India in New York hosted a vibrant celebration, bringing together over 300 members of the Indian diaspora and friends of India. The event, filled with patriotic fervor, featured dignitaries, community leaders, and cultural performers who came together to honor the occasion.

On X, the Indian Consulate in NY shared, “Glimpses of the 76th Republic Day celebrations at @IndiainNewYork, attended by around 300 Indian Diaspora and Friends of India.”



Binaya Srikanta Pradhan, Consul General of New York, hosted the Indian flag ceremony in the presence of community members.

“The 76th Republic Day of India was celebrated with great enthusiasm and fervor at @IndiainNewYork,” the Consulate continued. “Consul General @binaysrikant76 unfurled the tricolor in the presence of members of the Indian diaspora and Friends of India.”

According to the X post, in addition to the cultural performances, the NY Consulate also honored individuals from various fields—business, science, technology, arts, sports, and public service—for their outstanding contributions.

Among those honored community members were:

  • Manoj Chourasia, Member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives
  • Kris Singh, 4th Judicial District Administrative Judge of the New York State Unified Court System
  • Rena Malik, Judge in the New York City Civil Court, representing Brooklyn's 1st Municipal Court District
  • John Guy, Florence and Herbert Irving Curator of South and Southeast Asian Art, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York
  • Jonathan Hollander, Founder of Battery Dance Company
  • Dr. Ashok Chaudhury, Indian Heritage and Cultural Organisation—NJ
  • Mangesh Kamat, Mallakhambh Association of USA
  • Abhimanyu Mishra, the youngest Grandmaster
  • Sabina Dhillon, Attorney
  • Raj Lulla, co-founder and CTO of Haylon Technologies
  • Namin Shah, co-founder and CEO of Haylon Technologies

  • Abhinav Godavarthi, CEO of General Biological

The Indian Consulate in NY congratulated the awardees and commented, “We hope they continue to inspire and make significant impacts, enriching both their communities and the world at large.”

The Republic Day celebrations at the Consulate General of India in New York also featured a heartfelt Bharatnatyam performance by Kassiyet on the rendition of "Vande Mataram.".

Meanwhile in Chicago, Consul General Somnath Ghosh unfurled the National Flag and shared a message from the President of India. The event was marked by heartfelt tributes to the tricolor, with members of the community coming together in solidarity.

“On the 76th anniversary of the Republic Day, Consul General Somnath Ghosh unfurled the National Flag. He shared the message from Hon. Rashtrapatiji. Members of the community and diaspora came together to pay tribute to the tricolour. The celebrations featured cultural performances by the Indian community in Chicago. Consul General honored with certificate the top scorers of the Bharat Ko Janiye Quiz 2024.”



In Washington, DC, Indian Ambassador to the US Vinay Kwatra led the celebrations at India House and unfurled the National Flag. The event was attended by the members of the Indian diaspora, who participated in the festivities with pride and joy.

On the official X account of the Embassy of India, Washington, DC, the post read, “Ambassador Vinay Kwatra unfurled the tricolour and relayed President’s address to the nation at India House to celebrate the 76th Republic Day of India. Members of the Indian diaspora participated enthusiastically in the festivities.”



The Indian community in Houston also marked the occasion with a special celebration organized by the India Culture Center (ICC), an Indian American community organization based in Houston, Texas. It serves as a platform for cultural exchange, promoting Indian traditions, arts, and heritage. 

Consulate General of India in Houston X post stated, “Consul Mr. Prashant  Sona represented Consul General at  celebration on the occasion of  76th Republic Day of India organized  by India Culture Center (ICC), a long-standing Indian American community organization in Houston.”



In Atlanta, Consul General Ramesh Babu Lakshmanan and the Consulate staff celebrated the day with the local Indian community and friends of India.

“Celebrating the spirit of on 76th Republic Day! Consul General, along with the Consulate staff, the dynamic Indian community, and friends of India, came together to unfurl the Tiranga and celebrate the 76th Republic Day of India with traditional enthusiasm and joy. The occasion was further enriched by a mesmerizing Jal Tarang cultural performance presented by Shri Vikash Achutaramaiah and his team.”
