Indian-origin doctor shot dead in Alabama

Indian-origin physician Dr. Ramesh Babu Peramsetty, well-known for his contributions to the medical field, was shot and killed in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
The doctor, originally from the Tirupati district in Andhra Pradesh, India, was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.
As a distinguished figure in the medical community, Dr. Peramsetty was the founder and medical director of the Crimson Care Network, which manages several local clinics.
The network confirmed his untimely passing in a Facebook post, saying, "As many are aware, we have been informed of Dr Ramesh Peramsetty's passing. The Peramsetty family requests privacy during this time of mourning. They have received an outpouring of love and support, and we will continue to honor his legacy as he would have wanted us to."
In a later statement, the Crimson Care Network encouraged the community to keep the Peramsetty family in their thoughts and prayers during this challenging period. "Please continue to keep the Peramsetty and Crimson Care Network family in your thoughts and prayers as we navigate this challenging time. Our team is prepared to make more statements within the next few days. We will continue to honor his legacy. Our clinics remain open during the transition,” the post added.
Peramsetty, a 1986 graduate of Sri Venkateswara Medical College, brought almost four decades of medical experience to his practice, as noted by WebMD. He earned considerable acclaim during the COVID-19 pandemic, with his clinics being among the first to provide testing, vaccinations, and monoclonal antibody treatments.
He is survived by his wife, two sons, and two daughters, all of whom live in the United States.
