Indian-origin medical student bags STEM scholarship
This $2,500 award is designed to support students in their pursuit of higher education.

Aravind Sreeram has been named as a recipient of the STEM scholarship by The SBB Research Group Foundation. The $2,500 award is designed to support students in their pursuit of higher education, encouraging interdisciplinary studies in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) that contribute to creating value for society.
Sreeram, currently in his first year of medical school at Eastern Virginia Medical School, has a diverse background to his academic journey. He has served as a pre-medical intern in neurosurgery at Northwestern University and authored a peer-reviewed article proposing the use of mitochondria-filled vesicles as an in vitro treatment for ischemic stroke.
Additionally, Sreeram has a manuscript under review that delves into the Theory of Mind, a vital social cognitive skill, particularly significant for neurodiverse populations.
Sreeram also served as an undergraduate researcher in neuroscience at William & Mary, where he completed his Bachelor’s degree, and is currently a surgical scholar at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
"We are happy to support Aravind in his pursuit of a medical degree and his work to make meaningful contributions to the field," said Matt Aven, co-founder and board member of the SBB Research Group Foundation.
The SBB Research Group Foundation, a nonprofit linked to the Chicago-based investment firm SBB Research Group LLC, offers the STEM Scholarship to support students in STEM fields.
