Three individuals, Ajay Doppalapudi, Vahar Manchala, and Rana Yellambai, have been sentenced to a combined prison term of 10 years for coercing a woman into their vehicle and driving her a distance exceeding 15 miles. The incident occurred when the victim, who had been on a night out, was approached by the culprits in Leicester city centre during the early hours of 16 January of last year. She entered their car under the mistaken belief that it was a taxi.

As the car continued along Narborough Road, moving away from her intended destination, the victim became increasingly alarmed, sensing that something was amiss.

Ultimately, the driver halted in an isolated area near Misterton, just off the M1. It was at this point that the victim was forcibly removed from the vehicle. After some time, she managed to escape and fled the scene. Eventually, she reached the motorway and began attempting to signal for help. Law enforcement officers arrived soon after, and she was taken to a secure location where she recounted the harrowing ordeal she had endured.

Detective Constable Gemma Fox, the investigating officer, said: “Without doubt, the three men involved in this case were predators. They were in the city centre in the early hours that Sunday morning looking for a woman to take advantage of to fulfil their sexual gratifications,” she said. “I cannot commend the victim enough for her immense bravery in recounting her ordeal both to police and again in front of a jury. The account she was able to provide was vital in ensuring that we were able to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice,” she added.
