Jayanth Shreekumar, an Indian student, has become a member of Purdue University’s AI Aviation Team as a PhD candidate in Electrical and Computer Engineering. With this degree, he will play an important role in advancing the goals of Purdue’s AI aviation center, which is leading the way in transforming autonomous aviation.

Shreekumar wanted to do his PhD at Purdue University due to the university’s strong reputation in engineering, science, and technology.

This opportunity led Shreekumar to become part of the dynamic and interdisciplinary team at the Center on AI for Digital, Autonomous, and Augmented Aviation (AIDA3), an innovative initiative under Purdue's Institute for Physical Artificial Intelligence (IPAI).

AIDA3 is the first major project under Purdue Computes and also a key part of the Institutes and Centers at Discovery Park District. This center combines Purdue's strengths in engineering and AI to work toward the ambitious goal of developing the nation’s first smart air corridor.

Shreekumar, with a deep interest in AI, machine learning, and computer vision, is focused on applying these technologies to improve the safety and capabilities of autonomous aerial vehicles. His research involves collaboration with experts from various departments at Purdue as well as industry partners from both academia and the tech sector.

Before arriving at Purdue, Shreekumar earned his bachelor’s degree from PES University in India and completed his master’s in Electrical and Computer Engineering at UCLA.
