One standout player to watch is New Zealand allrounder Rachin Ravindra, who was picked up by CSK for US$217,000 at the auction. Born in Wellington, Rachin Ravindra comes from a family with roots in South India, specifically Bangalore. His father, Ravi Krishnamurthy, a software architect by profession, previously pursued club-level cricket in Bangalore before relocating to New Zealand in 1997.
The New Zealand all-rounder has shown stellar performance during the 2023 ODI World Cup in India, where he set record to be the first player at the age of 23 years or below to get 578 runs in a single edition of the World Cup. His recent record of scoring a 68 off just 35 balls against Australia in a T20I match is also notable.
The tournament's format includes a first Qualifier, where the top team in the league stage earns a direct spot. The second and third-placed teams face off in the Eliminator, with the winner advancing to the second Qualifier to compete against the first Qualifier's loser. The winner of the second Qualifier will secure a place in the IPL 2024 final.
After the faceoff in Chennai the season continues with a match between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) in Mohali on March 23. On the same day, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will face Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at home in Kolkata.
